Trailer Titles

House Trailers

In order to transfer title to a House Trailer it is mandatory that both the Treasurer's and the Auditor's office, in the County where the trailer was sited verify that all taxes have been paid. If so, they will stamp the title "HOUSE TRAILER TRANSFER APPROVED." If this stamp does not appear on the title, the seller must contact the Treasurer and Auditor of the appropriate county.

Travel Trailers and Truck Campers

All travel trailers, including fold down campers are required to be titled in Ohio. All House and Travel Trailers, including Tent, Fold Down Campers & Truck Campers must have a CERTIFICATE OF TITLE. DO NOT purchase a vehicle of this type unless the seller assigns to you the proper title.

Boat and Utility Trailers

A CERTIFICATE OF TITLE is not required on any Boat/Utility Commercial trailer weighing LESS THAN 4,000 pounds. To obtain license plates you must procure a weight card from the License Bureau and have the trailer weighed.

Commercial Trailers

Commercial trailers weighing 4000 lbs. or more are required to be titled. A Certificate of Title is not required on any commercial or utility trailer weighing less than 4000 lbs. The sale, purchase or mortgage of a trailer is the same as a motor vehicle except for the odometer statement, which is not required. To obtain license plates, contact a Deputy Registrar.
